Who is SITIZEN for?
Working families who find childcare difficult to arrange, and high-school or college students who want to volunteer their time. We're starting in Chevy Chase and the surrounding DC area.
Is childcare free?
Volunteer care is the heart of SITIZEN. Some volunteers may suggest a small contribution, which is shown before you choose. A contribution is optional, and SITIZEN does not add a platform fee.
Can volunteers earn service hours?
SITIZEN tracks scheduled and completed care. Whether those hours qualify for service credit is decided by your school, program, or organization. Ask them about eligibility and any documentation they require before committing.
How are volunteers reviewed?
Volunteers submit a profile for review before responding to requests. Profile approval is separate from identity verification, community connection, recommendations, and listed training. Look at each label and discuss your family's needs before confirming.
Is SITIZEN affiliated with a school?
SITIZEN began as a St. Albans student's project to help neighbors support neighbors. It is independently run and is not endorsed by, or an official partner of, St. Albans or any other school.
What if my plans change?
Open the request in your dashboard to review its status and cancellation options. Let your volunteer know as early as possible. For anything you need help resolving, contact the team through Help.
